He’s Not Ready For You Yet

As the video opens, we see John on the basketball court. He’s got moves – he can play for sure. We then cut to John in the coffee shop playing guitar by himself at a table. A group of women at a nearby table eye him, as he’s a handsome man. He smiles but clearly isn’t interested in them.

We then see Umberto walk to the table and catch John’s eye as he approaches him. As they make some small talk, the women at the nearby table notice John’s conversation with Umberto and loudly make comments that suggest they are surprised that John is interested in men. John gets embarrassed and leaves abruptly.

Our male narrator freezes the action and tells Umberto that it’s not his fault – that John is struggling to come to terms with his sexuality. The narrator goes on to talk about how revealing one’s sexual orientation to family and friends can be difficult for some people.

The scene switches and we see John, who is now sitting outside alone, still frozen. The narrator explains that sexuality is a hallmark of our personalities and that while John is afraid, he’ll eventually be surprised when his family supports him. We unfreeze John as Umberto walks up, the two can now, in the relative privacy of a quiet moment, have a more normal interaction. Umberto asks John if he’d like to get a cup of coffee somewhere else, and John looks pleasantly surprised/interested. They leave together as the video ends.
